Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
Top Ten Books I Almost Put Down But Didn't:
Ones that I almost put down because they were chunksters:
Books I Almost Put Down Because they were filler reads:
Books I almost put down because I either wasn't enjoying them or they were grating on my nerves (I eventually ended up giving Flowers in the Attic one star)
What's your Top 10 this Tuesday?
I haven't read any of the books in your list but I'm interested in reading Choke and A Child Called It. I expect that A Child Called It would be a bit sombre and depressing because of the heavy subject matter of the book, which is child abuse.
ReplyDeleteTrue, chunksters are major put-me-offs. I'm however reading a chunkster right now, 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. It's at 1,300 ++ pages but luckily I'm enjoying the read. :)
Thanks for visiting my blog.

Books Love Me
I love a good chunkster myself, At the time though I had so much going on that the chunksters were taking forever to get through. A Child Called it was okay, disturbing and not very well written but still worth the read.
DeleteTrue, reading a chunkster takes time and patience, in some instances. I hate it when I find that it takes forever to finish a book, so I understand what you are saying. I'll remember your points about A Child Called It. :)
DeleteThe only book I've read out of this list is Flowers In The Attic. I do generally feel put off by chunky books though.
ReplyDeleteI love chunky books now, I just had so many other books on the go or college that reading them was becoming a chore. The best chunky book I've ever read is Outlander though :)
DeleteI want to read The Outlander, but the size has kept me away so far. It's gotten such great reviews though, I really should read the darn thing, lol.
ReplyDeleteI like how you broke down your reasons for wanting to give the books up! I had problems with Chunksters in college, then didn't for awhile but am in a period where I don't have as much reading time so Chunksters have gone back on the intimidating list. One day I start picking them up again! I haven't really read any of these though most are on my "I really should read that list".
ReplyDeleteSo glad you didn't put down Outlander. One of my favourite books and series. Hope you enjoyed it after all! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of your other reads, but a friend keeps telling my to read Flowers in the Attic. I just don't think I'll like it. Maybe one day.
Happy reading!
Thanks for stopping by earlier! :)
Brittany @ This is the Story of My(Reading) Life
I haven't read any of these books or anything by these authors. It takes a lot for me to give up on a book and DNF it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting list!!
Chanzie @ Mean Who You Are.
I put those hunky romance novels on my to-read list. I haven't read VC Andrews for a very long time. But damn, her books were disturbing. I always wondered if they were inspired by her childhood or something.
ReplyDeleteEveryone keeps recommending Outlander to me, and I keep putting it off -- not so much for the length, as because, well, she's married when she meets Jamie, and that bothers me. (I know, extenuating circumstances and all. It still bothers me.)
ReplyDeleteI like how you broke these up, by the way. I go through periods when chunky books put me off, and others when I love them.
Oh, and Verne's From the Earth to the Moon? I did put that one down, despite a fondness for some of his other books back in my MG and teen years.
I love Chunksters. Also a huge fan of Outlander.
ReplyDeleteI can see how someone might want to put down Choke; it's definitely an odd one.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great list! I'm sad that I didn't do TTT this week since the topic was fun! I have Outlander on my shelf, but I'm scared to pick it up! :-)
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
I don't mind a chunky book, as long as I am entertained. Otherwise, things go bad very quickly! I haven't read any of these, but I have always wanted to give Flowers in the Attic a try.
ReplyDeleteI own Outlander but it is seriously overwhelming. I read Flowers in the Attic so long ago, but I do remember going on a V.C. Andrews kick after that.
ReplyDeleteQuite a selection you have there. I'm going to go and check out Dan Simmons books. They are my kind of reading and I like a chunkster now and then!
ReplyDeleteA child called it? Wth is that? Lol! I've had friends read Reaper's Legacy and love them. I'm not sure I would though. Cool feature! Thanks for stopping by the blog! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sometimes tempted to give up on a chunkster, but I've often been very glad I carried on even when the first couple chapters didn't grab me. :-)
ReplyDeleteI still have no idea why I thought I liked Flowers in the Attic when I was a teen. LOL
Except The Dying sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteI remember being moved by A Child called It (I read it when very young) but I can't remember what impression I had of Flowers in the Attic....
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
