Top Ten Tuesday #5

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

This week's top ten list is the Top Ten Books That Were Totally Deceiving (those covers or titles that don't fit the books, a book that was totally different than its summary, or those books you thought were going to be fluff that turned out to be more serious etc etc.)
Here are my Top Ten Tuesday Picks:

Living Dead Girl
Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott
The cover is beautiful in a creepy way and I was hoping that it would match the story line. This was not the case, I didn't care for this one much at all.

Holding On to Zoe
Holding On to Zoe by George Ella Lyon
I had such high hopes for this novel, too bad the novel didn't live up to the cover, which I actually like.

Beneath a Meth Moon
Beneath a Meth Moon by Jacqueline Woodson
I know the cover is plain but I liked that about it because of the subject matter but the book didn't suit it at all. I thought the book would be "deeper" than it was.

Highly Inappropriate Tales for Young People
Highly Inappropriate Tales for Young People by Douglas Coupland
I thought this one would inspire some giggles because of the title, cover and summery. It didn't happen. It was boring instead.

American Vampire, Vol. 1
American Vampire Vol. 1 by Scott Snyder, Rafael Albuquerque and Stephen King
This one had a great cover, and great summary for a graphic novel.
The inside was horrid.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Zelznick
I love the cover for this one, and the illustrations were grand but the writing part sucked for me at least.

The Lover's Dictionary
The Lover's Dictionary: A Novel by David Levithan
Love the cover. Hate the book and I had hoped it would be better than it was.

Family Affair
Family Affair by Debbie Macomber
I love the cover for this one but I don't think that it suits the book much at all which is unfortunate.

Imprint
Inprint by Annie Frame
The inside of the book matched neither the cover, nor the summary. Nothing about it went together to be honest!

Bram Stokers Death Ship
Bram Stoker's Death Ship by Gar  Gerani and Alex Sanchez
Oh how I adored this cover and the summary looked so good I could barely wait to read it, The artwork was fantastic but the story failed to live up to the cover and the summary.

So, which books are on  YOUR Top Ten Tuesday list this week?

  4. This is a really interesting list- I have seen 'American Vampire' around and thought about getting it but now you've made me think twice! I didn't like 'Lover's Dictionary' either much- quite bland and boring I thought.

  6. Bram Stoker has always been kind of slow for me. I hate when books are disappointing. The idea was too depressing for me to make a list this week.

  7. It is always frustrating when a cover is more awesome than the book. I enjoyed Living Dead Girl, but I can see where you are coming from with that one.

  10. Good List!! Living Dead Girl scared the crap out of me! But I have a child so maybe that's part of it. It was like I didn't want to keep reading it, but I had to finish it because if I didn't I thought I would have nightmares about it!
