*[Blog Tour Review] Unholy Hunger (Book One: Lure of the Serpent) by Heather James

Unholy Hunger (Book 1, Lure of the Serpent)

Summary:

Evelyn Barrett wants to die. As long as her daughter's murderer dies with her, she is ready to go. Why did this man—this stranger—destroy her family? Why has he not been brought to justice? Why is she forced to live a life of anger and grief? Amid a million questions she cannot answer, Evelyn knows one thing for sure: this murderer must be punished for his crime. Perhaps the harder lesson is this: the ultimate truth—of crime and verdict, of life and death—cannot be swayed by a mother's revenge.

In this first book of a new, page-turning series, a woman will be brought to her limits before she finally recognizes the movement of the Holy Spirit and reconnects with the source of true peace.

This isn't my usual type of read but it's exactly for that reason that I decided to give this book a try and sign up for this blog tour.

At 272 pages the book was a really short read for me but the author didn it justice. It was nice to find a Christian Fiction author who isn't afraid to deal with the darker side of humanity and Heather James is a perfect example of this when it came to her novel Unholy Hunger.

Unholy Hunger deals with some very rough issues surrounding children such as  murder, kidnapping, and child molestation but the author dealt with the issues in a very clean non-graphic way which will help this darker novel appeal to those who enjoy Christian Fiction.

The story was very intricate and rather emotional to read which isn't surprising given the subject matter but the way Heather James wrote it really sucked me into the story and the different plot twists kept me guessing throughout the whole novel which is a must for me if an author wants to grab my attention there must always be something more to keep me interested in reading further and she did just that.

The characters even the horrible ones (the bad guys) were expertly written and for a first time novelist Heather James did a nice job making them very solid characters and giving them all a spot in the story. What I liked most about the book though apart from the actual story line was the ease at which the words seemed to flow, which is rather uncommon in some of these darker novels.

Overall, I really liked Unholy Hunger. The story was strong, and for a first time novelist to write about the horrible fictional events in this book is a true testament to what I believe will lead to an even better second novel for the author. She was able to captivate me from page one and I finished the book in just a few hours because I wanted to see how it would turn out.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes a darker thriller that isn't so graphic. This book would probably work best for those interested in delving into a darker Christian Fiction novel though anyone with a penchant for books like these should enjoy it.

  4. Must have a lot of talent as an author to take on such dark themes and still not have to be that graphic. Especially a new author
