Waiting on Wednesday #60

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and is where we can talk about books we are looking forward to being released!

Here are my picks for the week:

Written in My Own Heart's Blood (Outlander, #8)

Summary:

WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD is the eighth novel in the world-famous OUTLANDER series. In June of 1778, the world turns upside-down. The British army withdraws from Philadelphia, George Washington prepares to move from Valley Forge in pursuit, and Jamie Fraser comes back from the dead to discover that his best friend has married Jamie’s wife. The ninth Earl of Ellesmere discovers to his horror that he is in fact the illegitimate son of the newly-resurrected Jamie Fraser (a rebel _and_ a Scottish criminal!) and Jamie’s nephew Ian Murray discovers that his new-found cousin has an eye for Ian’s Quaker betrothed.

Meanwhile, Claire Fraser deals with an asthmatic duke, Benedict Arnold, and the fear that one of her husbands may have murdered the other. And in the 20th century, Jamie and Claire’s daughter Brianna is thinking that things are probably easier in the 18th century: her son has been kidnapped, her husband has disappeared into the past, and she’s facing a vicious criminal with nothing but a stapler in her hand. Fortunately, her daughter has a miniature cricket bat and her mother’s pragmatism.

The best of historical fiction with a Moebius twist, WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD weaves the fibers of a family’s life through the tapestry of historical drama.

Why I'm Waiting:

I am a huge Outlander fan and even though I still have to read books 4 through 7 I can't wait to read Written in My Heart's Own Blood. I can't say that I like how it sounds because while I've copied and pasted the summary I haven't read it yet and don't plan to until I finish book 7. I just don't want to spoil anything for myself. I know it's weird but this may just be my most anticipated book ever! Plus it comes out just in time for Christmas so Mr. Turning the Pages had better buy it for me :)

Vitro

Summary:

On a remote island in the Pacific, Corpus scientists have taken test tube embryos and given them life. These beings--the Vitros--have knowledge and abilities most humans can only dream of. But they also have one enormous flaw.

Sophie Crue is determined to visit Skin Island and find her mother, a scientist who left Sophie behind years ago. She enlists hunky charter pilot Jim Julien to take her there. But once on the island, Sophie and Jim encounter more than they bargained for, including a charming, brilliant Vitro named Nicholas and an innocent, newly awoken one named Lux.

In a race for their lives, Sophie and Jim are about to discover what happens when science stretches too far beyond its reach.

Why I'm Waiting:

I loved Jessica Khoury's debut novel Origin when I read it in 2012 so I was so glad to see that the companion novel (not a sequel to Origins but set in the same universe) had both a cover which I love and a summary. This is one that I really wish was coming out sooner than it is and it sucks that we have to wait until next year to read it.

What are YOU waiting for this Wednesday?

  5. Vitro sounds fantastic, although I'm worried that it sounds a little too much like The Island. And I have a friend who has been trying to get me to read Outlander for ages. Should really get on that. :P Great picks!

  12. Two great picks! I'm so behind in the Outlander series (I've gotten through book four), and I have to decide if I should keep going. Vitro sounds interesting, and I love the cover...so I'm definitely going to have to grab that one.

  13. Words cannot express how excited I am about the new Outlander book coming out. I read those suckers as soon as they are released, and then have to suffer through 2 or 3 years waiting for the next one, lol. But that gives me plenty of time to re-read the first seven before December. Your other pick sounds good too - I'll have to check it out!
