Top Ten Books That I Wish Were Taught When I Was In High School:
I didn't have the opportunity to read Jules Verne while I was in school. I'm going to have to read at least one of these. And I wish The Fellowship of the Ring was required reading. That would have been amazing.

I wish I had gotten to read them for my English classes along with LOTR. I've read a few of Verne's novels and I adore them. Still working up the courage to read LOTR though. :)
DeleteI think I would've been very overwhelmed to read The Lord of The Rings, but it may have forced me to read it! I do want to at some point! Great list :-)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I've always regretted not reading it sooner, and I'm ashamed to say that I still haven't read it but I'm hoping to change that by years end.
DeleteThat's a lot of Jules Verne! Have to say I've never read one of his, another hole in my classic reading list. We had LOTR too, there should definitely be more fantasy on required reading lists!

Oh! You absolutely have to give Verne a try. I recommend starting with either The Mysterious Island or A Journey To The Center OF the Earth. Both were marvelous. I agree with you there is a need for more fantasy to be on required reading lists.

I think they would be great school reads because he practically invented the sci-fi and steampunk genres. I think his writing would be more appealing to kids than a lot of classics chosen.

I'm torn between The Mysterious Island and A Journey to The Center of The Earth, though I am leaning more towards Journey since I re-read it once a year.
DeleteLots of good choices-- the Nelson Mandela book is very good choice and the Jules Verne ones-classics. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness the Mandela autobiography was amazing. I'm half South African and when I read it I was on a bit of an epic quest to read more about where my family is from and the political climate there when my dad was growing up. It was an amazing read and I recommend it to everyone :)

DeleteI like your Jules verne choices, and I love that classic cover of Fellowship of the Ring. I should read Mysterious Island, I liked the movie as a kid but never read the book...
