Top Ten Tuesday #52

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
Top Ten Things On My Reading Wishlist:
(if you could make authors write about these things you would. Could be a specific type of character, an issue tackled, a time period, a certain plot, etc.)
Characters who are not willowy blondes or brunettes. I don't mean to offend anyone but I would love to see more diverse characters. Give us short girls, tall girls, skinny girls and plus size girls. I think some of my greatest heroes have been characters in books but they only ever fit one image. Also I would love to see more multiracial, Asian, African etc characters. This goes for more male characters breaking the traditional body builder blonde/brunette stereotype as well. Give us men with beards, a bit of a tummy, ANYTHING just make 'em different.
I would love to read more books set in Africa. I love the continent and will read pretty much any genre as long as it's set there.
More YA books set in Canada. I live in Canada and would love to see more YA set in this great country of mine. We have a few amazing writers who set their books here but I would love to see more. Most Canadian writers that I know of only write novels or mysteries.
More historical fiction set in Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and South America. I love historical fiction and would love to see more taking place in these locations.
Prehistoric Fiction.
I absolutely adore prehistoric fiction Ex. The Clan of The Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel. I think it's a fascinating topic and would love to see more of it. In fact I do see more of it now than a couple of years ago but I'm greedy and wish more authors wrote books in this genre.
Books that deal with the Celts. Ever since I first discovered King Arthur I've been obsessed with the Celts and would like to see more fiction about them.
Another thing that I'm seeing a few more authors write about but ever since I saw the tv show Gargoyles that was popular back in the late 90's I've loved them.
More Interracial couples.
Come on authors! It's 2014 and I would love to see more interracial couples that reflect relationships in the real world.
More fantasy romance with elves. Hello have y'all seen Legolas? We need romance with hero's like him. 'Nuff said.
More historical fiction with female warriors.
What Made Your Top 10 This Week?

  1. I love your list. I think the basic theme that I'm getting from it is that you want authors to construct more diverse realities. Our world is so big and vast and diverse but you do see a lot of the same kinds of characters, I would also love this.

  2. I love #4 on your list! I'd definitely want to read a book like that, it sounds so cool. :) My TTT list:

    Alice @ Alice in Readerland

  3. Yes to Legolas. Just, YES. Love all the other suggestions too! Great list.

  4. You're the second person to have prehistoric fiction and I think it's a great idea! Actually all of your ideas are great! I definitely want more mixed race main characters and interracial couples, because even though it's no longer hard to find in the real world it feels like it in fiction. Also elves, yes! I was so sick of not having elves in my books that I put them in my NaNoWriMo project last year, lol.

  5. Great list! I have prehistoric fiction on my list too, there's really so few books that are set in that era. I would also like to see more diversity in characters, different races and cultures and a non-US setting. Celts and gargoyles are something I'd definitely read! And I second historical fiction with female warriors, I could never get enough of those books :)
I really like your blog design and we seem to like similar books :) I'm a new follower.

  6. I like your list and there are things on it that I am like..yeah I want that too but I didn't think to mention them on my list. I had to think to hard to come up with what I did and then I read others list and I like..oh yeah. I want that

  7. Great list! Yes yes yes to number 1. And number 8. And I could go with numbers 4 and 6, too.

Now can we just get some good authors to pay attention? ;-)

  8. I have to agree with the more books set in Africa. I would love to see more of them, I've recently read a few books set in Africa and now I'm craving more. Prehistoric fiction would also be great. And I especially agree with having a more diverse characters.

  9. Great list. YES to romances involving elves! I also agree that we need more books with interracial couples, it's very rare and I think Noughts & Crosses is the last book I read that did that... and I'm thinking back the first time I read it ten years ago. Great picks! :)

    My TTT :)

  10. Great list! I love the idea of prehistoric fiction. I haven't read the Clan of the Cave Bear series, but it is on my TBR list.
