Waiting on Wednesday #144

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and is where we can talk about books we are looking forward to being released.

The Chosen (Black Dagger Brotherhood #15)

Summary:

A scorching forbidden love threatens to tear a rift through the Black Dagger Brotherhood in J. R. Ward’s newest novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

Xcor, leader of the Band of Bastards, convicted of treason against the Blind King, is facing a brutal interrogation and torturous death at the hands of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Yet after a life marked by cruelty and evil deeds, he accepts his soldier’s fate, his sole regret the loss of a sacred female who was never his: the Chosen Layla.

Layla alone knows the truth that will save Xcor’s life. But revealing his sacrifice and his hidden heritage will expose them both and destroy everything Layla holds dear—even her role of mother to her precious young. Torn between love and loyalty, she must summon the courage to stand up against the only family she has for the only man she will ever love. Yet even if Xcor is somehow granted a reprieve, he and Layla would have to confront a graver challenge: bridging the chasm that divides their worlds without paving the way for a future of even greater war, desolation, and death.

As a dangerous old enemy returns to Caldwell, and the identity of a new deity is revealed, nothing is certain or safe in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, not even true love . . . or destinies that have long seemed set in stone.

Why I'm Waiting:

I've been reading this series since 2010 and I love it. Other fans may be getting tired of it but I look forward to a new one in the series coming out every year. With this one I'm hoping certain story lines resolve themselves, April can't get here soon enough.

Feast of Sorrow: A Novel of Ancient Rome

Summary:

Set amongst the scandal, wealth, and upstairs-downstairs politics of a Roman family, Crystal King’s seminal debut features the man who inspired the world’s oldest cookbook and the ambition that led to his destruction.

On a blistering day in the twenty-sixth year of Augustus Caesar’s reign, a young chef, Thrasius, is acquired for the exorbitant price of twenty thousand denarii. His purchaser is the infamous gourmet Marcus Gavius Apicius, wealthy beyond measure, obsessed with a taste for fine meals from exotic places, and a singular ambition: to serve as culinary advisor to Caesar, an honor that will cement his legacy as Rome's leading epicure.

Apicius rightfully believes that Thrasius is the key to his culinary success, and with Thrasius’s help he soon becomes known for his lavish parties and fantastic meals. Thrasius finds a family in Apicius’s household, his daughter Apicata, his wife Aelia, and her handmaiden, Passia whom Thrasius quickly falls in love with. But as Apicius draws closer to his ultimate goal, his reckless disregard for any who might get in his way takes a dangerous turn that threatens his young family and places his entire household at the mercy of the most powerful forces in Rome.

Why I'm Waiting:

Historical Fiction is one of my favourite genres and this one is about a man who i have never really seen mentioned in fiction. I've heard of him, know a bit about him but am very excited about reading Crystal King's take on his life and times in ancient Rome. It looks like April is going to be a great month for books!

What are you waiting on?

    1. Yeah it's longer than I thought it would be but I'm not complaining. She has a spin off of this one too...and another spinoff series and then another series that has nothing to do with this one. She sure loves to write.

    1. I've been reading the series since 2010 and it was already several books in by then so I was lucky I read the ones that were out andcaught up now I read the new release so they're spaced out with a year between them.

  8. lol, so I think I'm one of those people who got tired of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I've read the first three and the fifth one, but after that, I lost interest despite its popularity. I stuck with Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires series and Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series instead.

    1. Yay, I'm glad you've enjoyed your dabbling in historical fiction...I recommend Stephanie Thornton's books (starting with The Secret History) she writes about strong women from the past and does it amazingly well.

  13. Feast of Sorrow sounds interesting! I enjoy historical fiction but don't read much set in ancient Rome. OTOH, I loved the BBC drama "I, Claudius" when I was in high school, so I might really like this book.
