*[Blog Tour Review] The Succubus Gift (The Telepathic Clans #1) by B.R. Kingslover

The Succubus Gift (The Telepathic Clans, #1)

Summary:

Book 1 of the Telepathic Clans Saga.

The history of the Clans, called the Sidhe by the Irish, stretches back to antiquity. The Goddess blesses Her people with 25 Telepathic Gifts. In addition to Telepathy, the Gifts include command over Air and Fire, Telekinesis and Teleportation. In over 2,500 years, She has never bestowed more than 15 Gifts on a single person.

Brenna Morgan was orphaned at eight when her parents were killed in a plane crash. Through one foster home after another, she carried the ornate, carved wooden box her mother had left with her, keeping it always a secret. Then one night she stumbles over a man who claims her as family.

Brenna’s life isn’t the same after she discovers her unusual and mysterious heritage. In addition to being a telepath, Brenna learns she has the Succubus Gift.

That’s just the beginning of her problems. Someone is stalking her. Then there’s the tall, dangerous woman who shadows her and hints a Goddess has linked them. And what is she going to do with a handsome, charismatic, womanizing man she knows she should avoid?

Some days a girl just wants to pull the covers over her head and stay in bed -- with a willing young man of course.

Urban Fantasy with a dash of romance. The Succubus Gift is a completely different take on the succubus myth. Beautiful women and hot men in a world with a hidden telepathic subculture.

I was so excited when the blog tour invitation for this book turned up in my inbox because I had actually been wanting to read it for a while before that and thankfully this one lived up to my expectations.

I haven't read any novels with a succubus as a main character so I really enjoyed that Brenna was my first succubus/telepathic character and you know what I liked her a lot. I loved that even though she was a little closed off at first that she was able to open up later on in the novel especially after learning who and what she is.

This book had everything that I look for in a paranormal romance. There was mystery, intrigue and lots of sizzling romance between the characters. I really enjoyed the story line that this book offered and I gobbled it up. I honestly couldn't get enough of Brenna's story because she was really smart and although fate dealt her a tricky hand she was still kick ass in her own unique way.

What I really appreciated though was the amount of humour B.R. Kingslover added into her novel. I hate reading paranormal romances that are far too serious so I'm very glad that the author decided to infuse the story line as well as the characters with her sense of humour because it worked out quite well in the end.

My only wish is that the author hadn't rushed the beginning as much but other than that there are no complaints from this blogger. B.R. Kingslover offered up a great read in her novel The Succubus Gift and I am very much looking forward to her next novel in the Telepathic Clans Saga. Hopefully I can get a copy of book 2 soon.

I would recommend this novel to fans of Urban Fantasy and/or Paranormal Romance novels  because there are things in the novel that will appease the appetites for both types of readers. Plus with the holidays coming up this would make a wonderful addition to some one's kindle to spice up their reading life!

About the Author:

I write books combining Adult Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, and Science Fiction. I believe in fiction as an escape, with devastatingly beautiful women and incredibly sexy men.

In my books, you will find characters with psychic abilities, such as telekinesis and telepathy, and a completely different view of a succubus than you've ever encountered before.

I made silver and turquoise jewelry for almost a decade, ended up in nursing school, then took a master's in business. Along the way I worked in construction, as a newspaper editor, and somehow found a career working with computers.

I love the outdoors, especially the Rocky Mountains. I've skied since high school, with one broken leg and one torn ACL to show for it. I've hiked and camped all my life. I love to travel, though I haven't done enough of it. I've seen a lot of Russia and Mexico, not enough of England. Amsterdam is amazing, and the Romanian Alps are breathtaking. Lake Tahoe is a favorite, and someday I'd like to see Banff.

I have a very significant other, two cats and two Basset Hounds. I'm currently living in Baltimore, nine blocks from the harbor, but still own a home in New Mexico that I see too infrequently.

This book really impressed me. When I first got the tour invite I was drawn in by the stunning cover more so than the summary. What can I say? I love book covers. By the time I got around to reading the book summary I had already made up my mind to host a spot on the book's blog tour.

I'm very glad that I chose to take part in the blog tour for What Kills Me by Wynne Channing. Before this I had never heard of the author before so I'm happy that the I was able to try a new to me author out.

I really liked Axelia's (I LOVE her name!!) character. She was a normal teenager with normal wants and desires when she took off abroad but then a pesky ancient curse found her falling into a well and BAM! She got fangs and became a vampire. I actually thought the whole ancient curse thing was a nice touch. I thought it was really unique to find a vampire novel.

What really had me liking the book the most was that there was an adequate bit of romance but there was a nice amount of action. I loved Lucas and how he fit into the story because he was such a great match for Axelia.

Overall, the book was a really enjoyable read. I happened to read it in one sitting it was such a good read I just had to finish it it because I couldn't help but want to find out what was next. I highly recommend this book to all the YA paranormal romance lovers who are looking for a unique take on vampires.

Firstly, I need to say how happy I am to be able to host a review stop on another of Elle's blog tours. Last month I had the pleasure of hosting a review and interview with Elle on her blog tour for her book Chasing Fate click HERE to check out my post. So, when I saw that one of my favourite tour companies would be hosting a tour for her newest book I couldn't resist signing up and I'm really glad I did.

When I read Elle's other book last month I was really struck by her writing style. I really enjoyed how she created the story in that book and I wondered what it would be like if she wrote a full length novel. Now, that I've read her full length novel I can't help but love her writing even more.

In this book I think that Elle's talent was really able to shine through. I haven't read a lot of novels with witches but the ones that I have read are absolutely nothing like the witches in this novel. I really felt for Meera. She had no idea what she was for so long I can only imagine how hard it must have been for her to continue living yet not knowing what was wrong. However, as you probably guessed from the summary she eventually does learn what and who she is and I'm glad to say that the story surrounding that came together really well. Even Ghanem was introduced into the story in a great way instead of being thrust into the story which I've seen a lot of authors doing lately.

I loved the story of Meera and Ghanem but what I liked most was that there was more of a paranormal mystery/adventure to the book rather than it being all romance. I love how Elle always seems to work a lot of action and strong female characters into her stories and like Chasing Fate, The Luminary was no different.

I finished this book over a period of about two days even though I could have read it in one sitting I've come to enjoy Elle's writing so much I just had to spread it out. I really loved this book and I wish that I hadn't finished it because it was so good. I can't wait to read the next book in the series but since I have no idea when the next book comes out it won't be soon enough.

I highly recommend this book to everyone, including those new to the paranormal romance genre. This book is one that is not to be missed. If you like a novel where you're always anticipating what comes next this might just be your next read!

*[Blog Tour Review & Author Interview] Chasing Fate (Unspun) by Elle J. Rossi

Summary:

Destiny. Some will do anything to change it. Even hunt down the spinners of fate.

The Fates are said to control our destinies. From our first breath to our dying gasp, these creatures of legend weave the courses of our lives. Even the gods are subject to their decrees. Spinners of dark secrets, the Fates have been feared for the tragedies they weave. No man dared confront the Relentless Ones . . . until now.

CHASING FATE

She is forced to kill . . .

When a much-needed vacation turns into work for the third Fate, Atropos vows to sever the mortal’s lifeline quickly and get back to the sea and sand. Having her mysterious quarry offer a deal in exchange for more time is an unexpected complication. Always surrounded by darkness and death, Attie takes a chance to get a taste of life and help right a wrong that never should have happened.

He refuses to die . . .

Dru spent months praying for death to take him. Anger over the brutal killing of his family festered until those prayers turned to plans for revenge. Making a deal with the Death Fate was the only way to extend his lease on life. He only needed a handful of days to avenge those he lost, but within minutes of meeting Atropos he knew he’d want forever.

First and foremost I'd like to thank the wonderful people of Dark Mind Book Tours for putting this book tour together! I'm so glad that I decided to participate in Elle J. Rossi's book tour for her novella.

If you've been following my blog for awhile you'll notice that novellas are usually hit or misses with me with the latter occurring more often. I'm happy to say that this was one of the rare hits! From the first page of her novella Chasing Fate, Elle J. Rossi had me hooked to every word.

I thought that the whole idea of someone finally using Greek mythology to modernize the tales of the Fates was unique. I loved the character of Atropos (Death) because well, that's just me. I thought she was a pretty tough cookie, and I'm glad she wasn't a very...what's the word I'm looking for? Oh, perky. I've noticed that a lot of authors are making they're deity inspired characters very cheerful and humourous even though they're often the darker deities in history.

I though the whole story line worked out really well and I thought that the way Elle J. Rossi built up the characters was an excellent example of how you can write a well rounded novella and have it feel as though it were a full length novel due to her close attention to detail as well as her ability to aptly catch the emotions of Dru and Attie.

All in all it was a really good novella and one that I enjoyed a lot. I honestly can't wait to read more by Elle J. Rossi and I hope that she continues writing about the Fates and the gods of Olympus. I also hope that she thinks about writing full length novellas because I will absolutely read them if she does!

I recommend Chasing Fate to everyone. It was a good quick paranormal romance that felt longer than it was (in an exceptionally good way). It's perfect for when you need a quick read and one that is entertaining enough that you may just want to ignore the world while you read it.

AUTHOR INFO:
Elle J Rossi grew up in rural Indiana surrounded by great people, a huge family and more animals than she could count. But the sites and sounds of the world beckoned, so she left her small town to escape into a creative world full of music. As a full time singer she was able to lose herself in a thousand different songs in a hundred different places.
After meeting the love of her life and settling down, she yearned to find a new and fulfilling creative outlet. Overly fond of the happily ever after, she wondered what it would be like to have her own characters lead her down dark and twisted paths. The very first word on the very first page sealed her fate. She'd found a new love. She'd found her escape.
Now along with weaving haunting tales about the journey to love, she's creating cover art for authors around the world and loving every second of it. For fun, she cranks country music to take her back to her roots, and sings karaoke anytime she gets a chance. Her husband, two children, and a cat that rules the roost keep her company along the way and guarantee she doesn't get lost in the enchanted forest. She wouldn't have it any other way.

Author Interview:
  1. When did you decide to writeChasing Fateand why did you decide to write it?
Actually, Berinn Rae came up with the unique idea for the Fates. She emailed me last October and asked what I thought about each Fate’s story being written by a different author. I told her it was the best idea I’d ever heard, assuming as I was one of those authors! She then invited Rachel Firasek and the three of us formed a Fatalicious team.
2. Who is your favourite character inChasing Fate?
Now that’s a tough question. I can definitely relate to Attie. I’ve had too much death surrounding me over the past few years and it really takes an emotional toll. However, I can’t imagine what it would be like to be the one in charge of snipping a person’s lifeline. Then there’s the incredibly sexy Druses Petracca. He only had a few days left to live, yet he did everything in his power to not only make the most of it, but to get retribution for his family. I can totally respect that. If I had to pick, I really think I’d go with Attie!
3. What was your favourite part of the writing process?
Believe it or not, it was editing. First we each sent our stories to the other two authors. Berinn and Rachel taught me so much. I can’t believe how much a simple change can alter the story from so-so to “Wow! I wrote that?” status. We didn’t stop there. Each of us then sent our work to a most fabulous editor. Theresa Cole rocked it! I’m so glad she had time to be a part of our project
4. Who are your top five favourite authors and books?
I LOVE this question! Okay, here we go…
  1. Heather Graham: Deadly Night
  2. Nalini Singh: Angels’ Blood
  3. Elle Jasper: Afterlight
  4. Ken Follett: World Without End
  5. Kresley Cole: A Hunger Like No Other
5. SinceChasing Fatedeals with the Fates and includes appearances of other ancient Greek gods have you always been interest in mythology?
I’ve always loved mythology and would love to write more stories around some of the gods and goddesses. Actually, when I was pretty young, my family let me pick the name for two of our puppies. Big mistake! I named one Hector and the other Andromeda. My family thought I was totally nuts. But Hector stayed with us for years and we still talk about him.
6. Are you working on any other writing projects?
Absolutely! I’m always working on something and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Currently I’m writing the second book in The Brennan Coven trilogy. Book one—The Luminary—will be released by Crimson Romance on September 10, 2012. Book two—The Soother—is due back on December 1st. It’s major crunch time but I LOVE it. After that, I’ll wrap up the trilogy with The Caster.
7. What's the most rewarding thing about being an author?
Escaping. For me, there’s nothing better than escaping into another world, especially when that world is based around the paranormal. Real life is hard. I think we all need to get away as often as we can.
8. Do you think that social networks are a valuable tool for authors?
Yes, I do. Not only does it allow us another way to connect with our readers, it’s also a fantastic way to collect information. The community of writers are the most helpful people I’ve ever come across. All I need to do is ask a question on any of the social media outlets, and within seconds I have people offering advice and helping any way they can.
