Back in March I had the opportunity to hear Melodie Campbell read at a local event and was lucky enough to find that the Toronto library had one of her books in the system when I looked  a couple of days later, and finally had the time to read it last month.

 

This was everything Melodie said her books would be. It was funny, quirky, had a mix of romance and a touch of mystery with good characters and a funny plot. This one had me laughing at least ninety percent of the time that I was reading it but I had a smile on my face the other ten percent.

 

I really liked Gina, she's the Goddaughter of a mafia boss and along with her love interest Pete got roped into helping "the family" do a job that involved border crossings, prostitutes, diamond smuggling, hot shoes and a little bit of murder. It might seem like there was a lot going on in this slim 134 page paperback and there was but the author did a good job of putting everything together to make a pretty damn good story.

 

I thought it was fast paced and well written but I like how the book didn't take itself to seriously. If you want something that will make you think as you read, this one might not be fore you because it was so fun. You aren't going to find a lot of character depth, or an iron clad plot but I've read much, much worse, and consider this one of the best little novellas I've read.

 

It was my first time reading a book by Melodie Campbell and it won't be my last because I loved how part of the story is set in Canada and that Melodie is a Canadian writer. I had so much fun reading this one that I'm adding her to my auto-buy list and I can't wait to read more from her.

 

I'd recommend this one to anyone looking for a quick and fun read. Whether you need a break from reading a heavier tome, or you just need something to read at the doctors, on vacation or just something to get you into reading or back into reading. It has a little something for everyone and reminds us that there are great authors out there using humour to make us readers love their stories.

After seeing a splendid review of How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You I knew I had to read the book and luckily I was able to score a copy of it through my library.

 

I wasn't exactly sure what to expect but it certainly wasn't what I got. I thought I would be in for a comic that would have laughing hysterically given what so many people were saying about the book on Goodreads and Amazon.

 

Too bad for me it wasn't as funny as I had hoped at all. The Comics were cute but weren't anything to write home about. I thought they were only mildly funny and I was greatly disappointed by that fact considering one of my favourite bloggers gave the book such a stellar review of it I found it to be bland and pretty stereotypical with the basic cat jokes.

 

While it was a quick and easy read I just look at it as if it was just something to occupy my time in between reading novels. I wish I had liked the book more and I wish the material tied in with the title a lot more but it didn't which I found to be a little misleading.

 

Overall, this was an okay read. Not bad but not Good. Apart from the occasional giggle I wasn't very entertained at all and I would only recommend this book to be read as a little novelty read for cat lovers in a stocking at Christmas.

A few years back I read the author's previous book Sh!t My Dad Says and loved it. I thought it was hilarious outrageous, witty and gritty so when I saw that Justin Halpern had a second book out I knew I had to read it.

 

I Suck at Girls was yet another hilarious book where Justin Halpern dishes on his personal life and is filled with wonderfully sage advice from his father who is in his mid-seventies who tells it like it is whether people want to hear it or not.

 

In I Suck at Girls we get an even more intimate glance into the life of Justin Halpern as he dishes about the time he lost his virginity, first got dumped, went overseas and moved out on his own and all the other disastrous moments in his life in between.

 

I'm a huge fan of the author's and I love how readily he is willing to talk about his personal life. Many of the experiences he share are the typical coming of age stories that many of us probably experience though we may not all have a father like his.

 

The book was a quick read but I loved every second of it. It had me laughing out loud almost the entire time that I read it and I literally had tears rolling down my face in some parts. While I really enjoyed it, it wasn't as funny as Sh!t My Dad Says but that's okay with me. Both books are really different from each other so it's a little harder to compare them.

 

Overall, it was funny, easy to read and entertaining. I would recommend this to anyone who has read Sh!t My Dad Says and of course those who haven't. I really hope that Justin Halpern writes another book because I'm dying to hear more witty remarks from his dad.

Back in January I had myself a wee obsession with Jenny McCarthy's books and kinda read 4 of them within a week or so and this was the last of them that I read, and really enjoyed, maybe not as much as the other books I've read by her but I still liked it.

 

I really enjoyed reading about her life post divorce and coping with being a single mom too her young son Evan. I also learned a lot about her life before she became famous which was hilarious especially when she talked about her exploits as a Bunny.

 

Love, Lust and Faking it was just as gritty as her previous books but they lacked a flow. She tended to jump all over the place with her stories and sometimes I'd be reading about her life before being famous, then post divorce, then back again it was very jumbled and that was the main reason why I didn't love this book as much as her others. Plus many times while reading it seemed as though things were a tad bit forced and I'm not used to that.

 

Usually in her books her humour as gritty as it is is seamless and flowing which I think was lost in this one. Luckily though it was still a hilarious read and one that I'm pretty sure I'm going to read again when I need a laugh. Seeing Jenny write about her personal life experiences is great as it's not a side many celebrities are willing to show so it's awesome they have good and bad days like the rest of us.

 

Overall, I thought this was a pretty good book and I'd recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Jenny McCarthy and her wicked sense of humour. I can't wait to read another book by her and I hope she comes out with a new one soon.

I'll admit it. In January I went a bit overboard with reading Jenny McCarthy's books but I really couldn't help myself. In case you missed it I reviewed her first book Belly Laughs last week and you can see my review by clicking HERE.

 

In Baby Laughs Jenny leads us through her first year of motherhood in her typical true to form raunchy way. From the ups and downs of bringing her little bundle of joy home to battling post partum depression to changing her baby's diapers she used her unique sense of humour to tell her story.

 

While this isn't the typical memoir we do get a unique glimpse into the life and times of a Hollywood mom and even though she may not be one of those in your face celebrities who appear in magazines every week she is a recognizable name in Tinsel Town.

 

I loved how she wrote about a lot of different scenarios she went through that are plausible enough to have happen to the average new mom. She talks about family, sex, getting her body back and going back to work. She shares the ups and downs ins and outs and even some things you may not want to read if you have a delicate stomach but she makes it hilarious.

 

Just like when I read her first book Belly Laughs this book had me hooked from the first page and had me laughing from the first page to the last. I can honestly say that I'll probably read anything that Jenny McCarthy writes because she's got the ability to get me out of a slump and have me laughing so hard I have tears running down my face.

 

I would recommend Baby Laughs to everyone not just moms or moms to be. Although now that I think about it, Baby laughs would make the perfect shower gift for expectant moms. I think it's one that I might just buy for my friends when they're expecting just for a laugh.

First off, no I'm not expecting! The reason I read the book was because a friend of mine on Goodreads recently read it and gave it a pretty high rating and recommended it to me. I was a little hesitant about giving the book a try but I'm really glad I did!

 

Jenny McCarthy brings wit, raunchy humour and the real truth about pregnancy to the masses. I loved the fact that a celebrity was ready and willing to open up about the naked truth behind her pregnancy.

 

The book was divided up into little chapters where she would talk about one thing that related to her pregnancy at a time with her own raunchy sense of humour that I find so likable. While it was a tiny book at only 165 pages long it packed a punch in the humour factor and I found myself laughing almost the entire time I read the book. The thing I liked most about the book was that Jenny McCarthy was by no means afraid of making fun of herself which is pretty refreshing.

 

Overall, I though Belly Laughs was a barrel of laughs. It will make you laugh hysterically and cringe in fear at the possibility that you may experience the things she did in various degrees of seriousness during your own pregnancies.

 

I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Jenny McCarthy and her unique sense of humour and if you aren't afraid of a book that uses crude language and want a laugh I say go for it whether your expecting, have kids already or are considering the possibility.

Okay...lets be honest here. I'm only 21 (22 on May 31st)  so I know a lot of this doesn't apply to me even though Mr. Turning The Pages and I have been together for a few years now. However, that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the book for what it is, and what it is is a hilarious insider's look into Jackie Papandrew's marriage and her views.

From the first page of the book I was addicted, I really don't think that there was a single part in the book where I wasn't giggling along with the writing as I read the book which at a short 98 pages was actually really good.

A lot of the stuff Jackie said reminds me of my mother, also named Jackie and her way of dealing with my dad...at the same time I kind of do the same things and/or experience(d) some of the things in her book in my relationship with Mr. Turning The Pages.

I think that this book is a great little thing to read. I think it's the perfect thing to read while waiting for laundry to dry, while cooking dinner or anytime really, just be prepared to laugh a lot like I did. I would have no trouble whatsoever recommending this one to any of my friends especially when they're in need of a laugh.

Ever since I read my first Peter Allison book in April of last year I've been waiting eagerly to read his newest book of adventures! Unfortunately I was on the waiting list for the library since the book's release date but at least I was the first one to read the copy I got last week (Which I finished in a few hours mind you).

This one was just as funny and entertaining as I had hoped it would be though you can tell that Peter went at his journey across South America a little older and a little wiser. I say older because he frequently refers to himself as that. But despite being a little older he held up a lot better than I would have if I had been the one traveling so much.

Of course, for me the best part of the book was that he still managed to get himself into loads of hilarious and dangerous positions. My favourite part of the book is when he talks about meeting Roy, a puma that he was to "walk" every day for about a month. Now while these large cats are considerably smaller than the lions in Africa they're still stronger than any man. They're bodies are all muscle despite their delecate appearence and Peter sure got to experiance the power that Roy had first hand as he was often the one that was getting bitten by, jumped on and dragged along through the rainforest by Roy.

Peter Allison's tales in this book are sure to delight any fan of his works, he's snarky and hilarious in a way that only he could be. His experiences are wonderful to read about and I'm glad he decided to write a third book based on his adventures in South America, the country that lost the coin toss when he was 19 years old and wanting to take a year off. Instead he went to Africa and became a safari guide, later he returned to Australia and finally he was able to see what life could have been like had the coin fallen on the opposite side all those years ago. If you enjoy travel memoirs and that will have you laughing out loud at the author's antics this is the book for you. I highly recommend it! I can't wait to see what he writes next!

It felt great to be back in New Jersey with Stephanie Plum, Lula, Connie, Ranger and of course Joe! This book had to have been the funniest book in the series yet. I absolutely loved it.

After the more serieous reads (the non-fiction) books that I've been reading as of late I felt that I had to read something to brighten up my life. So of course I turned to my favourite series knowing I would have a laugh out loud time reading it.

I honestly thing that Janet Evanovich is one of the best writers in this genres. The characters and the story were even more hilarous than the last book. I mean Grandma Mazur joined a band with Lula, and Sally Sweet and wore an outfit that was reminiscent of Madonna in the 80's and 90's (Grandma is somewhere in her 70's or 80's mind you). She also decides to open the casket at a murder victims viewing which in turn caused a riot of epic proportions.

This book had it all for me. Humour, adventure and sexual innuendos between Stephanie and Ranger and Stephanie and Joe (I'm team Joe). Of course Rex the hamster made an appearence and so did Bob the big Orange dog. Ranger's daughter was in it (She's just like her Daddy in terms of Spirit), and there was a creepy psycho that wanted Stephanie (she sure does attract the weirdos doesn't she?). And she also tells Joe a little something she's been struggling with. FINALLY :D

So as you can probably tell I LOVED the new enstallment in the series and am currently working on the next book Lean Mean Thirteen in between a bunch of other books. If you for some reason haven't read this series I strongly suggest that you do so. Right now. If your look for something funny they're perfect. Also they aren't just for the ladies Mr. Turning The Pages read the first one last year and loved it. He thinks Stephanie and Grandma Mazur are a hoot!

Here it is. The first book read of 2012.
First off let me tell you that I had no idea what this book was about when I requested to read it from NetGalley but I wanted to give a shot. You know branch out a bit and read something fun and easy and since this book is only something like 64 pages long I thought it would be perfect to read something funny.
It wasn't funny. At least not to me I feel like this is just someone's effort to make money on being a youtube sensation by other means. I didn't find the writing funny and I absolutely ridiculous but once again I seem to be in the minority because other people who reviewed it seemed to love it.
I just couldn't find anything funny about this book it was way to ridiculous for me and I didn't like it at all. I don't hand out 1 star ratings lightly or that often but this is one of the rare occaisons in which I am forced to do so. This just wasn't for me.

Well you all know that I've veen getting into the hoiday spirit these last few weeks and so even though I havent read any of the other Awesome books by this author I decided to pick it up. I was actually surprised how much I liked it considering the book is just basically a list of simple yet awesome things to be thankful for.
I found myself agreeing whole-heartedly with most of the things in this book and I felt that this book was a light, fun, easy read and I like that the author is encouraging people to take a little time out of their day to appreciate the little things in life that we often forget with all the stuff going on in our lives.
This is definetly a book that I would recommend to people because it's such an easy read it's a book you can pick up here and there and just enjoy it.
I really hope to read the other books Neil Pasricha has written soon and I hope that if you're reading this you'll give his books a try too.
