Hey there folks!
After 14 months of blogging I've finally decided to start my own reading challenge for 2013!
When I was a kid I read a lot of books but I ignored some of the oldies that are out there gathering dust on the shelves of bookstores and libraries everywhere because people typically want to read the newer books.
However, I'm standing up and saying enough is enough and I plan on rescuing those classic childrens books from purgatory and even if no one else wants to join me in this little challenge I think it'll be good for me to recapture a bit of my childhood.
But, this is open for everyone to participate in and I welcome everyone to join in!
Rules:
✰ The challenge will run from
January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. Each month will have its own
link form so you will be able to share your book reviews. You do not have
to review the books you read to participate, but only those who read/reviewed at
least one Children's Book a month.will be able to participate in the giveaway (you can
track your reading without the reviews with Goodreads, Shelfari etc.).
✰ALL BOOKS MUST HAVE AN ORIGINAL PUBLICATION DATE OF 1960 or BEFORE. Book sites like Goodreads are
good sources of genre information.
✰Minimum length is 60 pages
✰ All formats allowed.
✰Re-reads are allowed!
✰It does not matter whether it's a
series or a stand-alone book. (But hey a series is a good way to read for the challenge)
✰If you are participating, grab the
challenge button from above and feel free to use it as a header on your own blogs.st it on you blog.
✰ Please include the link back to this
post so others will be able to participate as well.
✰At the beginning of every month post a list of the books that you've read/reviewed for this challenge and link up back here. The post will go live on the first of every month. Your first "Challenge in Review" post will be up on February 1st.
✰If you will participate, put the sign-up link to your blog post (about the challenge) or blog (for the button) directly into the linky below. Sign-ups will be open until December 22, 2013.
✰If you will participate, put the sign-up link to your blog post (about the challenge) or blog (for the button) directly into the linky below. Sign-ups will be open until December 22, 2013.
✰You do not have to list your books
in advance, go and do as you please. Read as many as you want. The purpose is to have fun with each
✰ Share the challenge on Twitter, Facebook and your blogs to help it gain exposure.
✰ Share the challenge on Twitter, Facebook and your blogs to help it gain exposure.
✰In December I will be giving away a set of Children's Classics (titles unknown as of yet) that you will have a chance to win if you reviewed one classic children's book. More information will be available as the date becomes closer.
Please don't hesitate to e-mail me (Kimberly) at Turning.the.Pages@hotmail.com (Just copy and paste the e-mail address) if you have any questions, comments, concerns.
I hope a couple of people will join me in this year of magical reading!
I plan to join! I just can't right this min because I am reading this wonderful idea from my kindle. Lol! Plan to sign up with ya tomorrow. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for signing up Angie :D
DeleteI'm participating!
ReplyDeleteThanks Adela!
DeleteI posted here: http://vanillamoonblog.com/2012/12/pre-1960-ccbrd/
ReplyDeleteI already have too much to read for next year, but that's a great idea =) I'd definitely suggest the Little House on the Prarie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, if you haven't read them already!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation :D
DeleteAlright I will think about it. I am not too high on reading Children's books and really bad with challenges (if last year's are anything to quote by). Since you're giving a huge sign-up open period, probably I will see how the year is going and join later on. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAww I wish you'd sign up! But not to worry I understand how out of hand reading for challenges can get :)
DeleteGreat challenge! I think this is the first one I've seen specifically for children's books! I read lots of pre-1960 novels to my kids, so this is perfect for me!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting!
Thanks for signing up Darlene :D
DeleteThanks for hosting! I am so excited to join this challenge!
ReplyDeleteThis is just what I need! My list of to-be-read children's books is enormous. Thanks so much for hosting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this! Helps me catch up on books I missed first time around!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for a challenge, although it's not so much of a challenge for me, I'm reading these books anyway, but it's lovely to see what others will read too. There's always more great books out there.
ReplyDeleteI had planned on reading tons of children's books this year, so this challenge is perfect to catch up on classics that I loved or missed reading as a child. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI've joined this challenge and I've started The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe with my kids. What is everyone else reading right now in the world of Children's Classics?
ReplyDeleteHi! Do you mean 'renound' or classic, as in 'vintage'? I'm a HUGE believer in promoting out-of-print or less known gems. If these don't have to be big names, I might step aboard. :)
ReplyDeleteThere are no number levels. Is your prize random or is reading & reviewing more, an advantage? A reply to my blog is appreciated. I use dial-up and checking back so many URLs for replies makes no sense. Phew!
I read a bunch of cute books in July. I have to go to the library and get my August books

Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
ReplyDeleteIt’s hard to find knowledgeable people on this topic, but you sound like you know what you’re talking about! Thanks
ReplyDeleteYou should take part in a contest for one of the best blogs on the web. I will recommend this site!
ReplyDeleteI have not much time to visit many websites. But today I found this site accidently. I explored much information which is useful to my life. Thanks! Sbobet
ReplyDeleteYay! The ID forms are functioning at last! I've e-mailed and reached you any way I could to verify myself as a finished contestant. :) It was hard to find review pages (I'm on dial-up, literally connecting on-line via phone line). And I finished 12 qualifying books long ago, so it didn't work to do one per linky month, if I could find them.
ReplyDeleteThank you for being hostess to one very unique theme! It got me past things like "Charlotte's Web" which could have been crossed off my list decades ago. Please e-mail, or message my blog, or Goodreads if there is a wrap-up URL you want used. Otherwise consider me a finalist for a prize! :) Having gotten this message through, a succeeding post will have my title list. I entered it into a linky page or two as well. Warmly, Carolyn.
My blog showing reviews for all 12 titles is here. http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/2013/02/01/dusty-tales-pre-1960/

Oh, it feels good the form is working! In addition to e-mailing, I ask here if there is a wrap-up link? I'm calling it a done deal. :) All of my reviews are above and on my original post. I've written a wrap-up, should you want a different page. :)

I was wondering if you ever thought of changing the page layout of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two images. Maybe you could space it out better?

There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
