Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and is where we can talk about books we are looking forward to being released!
Here are my picks for the week:
Summary:
At last, mega-bestselling author Sister Souljah delivers the stunning sequel to The Coldest Winter Ever.Cold, raw, and filled with adventure and emotional intensity, A Deeper Love Inside tells an unforgettable coming-of-age story in the words of Porsche Santiaga, Winter’s younger sister.
Sharp-tongued, quick-witted Porsche worships her sister Winter. Cut from the same cloth as her father, Ricky, Porsche is also a natural born hustler. Passionate and loyal to the extreme, she refuses to accept her new life in group homes, foster care, and juvenile detention after her family is torn apart. Porsche—unique, young, and beautiful—will do whatever it takes to reclaim her status and return to her wealthy, loving family.
In A Deeper Love Inside, readers will encounter their favorite characters from The Coldest Winter Ever, including Winter and Midnight. Souljah’s voice will again move your heart and soul and open your eyes to a shocking reality.

Why I'm Waiting:
So last week I read Midnight by Sister Souljah and I loved it even more than I loved The Coldest Winter ever which I read back in 2010 and since then I've wondered what happened to little Porsche Santiaga so needless to say I was estactic when a couple weeks ago I noticed that this would be coming out. I can't wait to read it!
Summary:
New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Chiaverini illuminates the extraordinary friendship between Mary Todd Lincoln and Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley, a former slave who won her freedom by the skill of her needle, and the friendship of the First Lady by her devotion. In Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker, novelist Jennifer Chiaverini presents a stunning account of the friendship that blossomed between Mary Todd Lincoln and her seamstress, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Keckley, a former slave who gained her professional reputation in Washington, D.C. by outfitting the city’s elite. Keckley made history by sewing for First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln within the White House, a trusted witness to many private moments between the President and his wife, two of the most compelling figures in American history.
In March 1861, Mrs. Lincoln chose Keckley from among a number of applicants to be her personal “modiste,” responsible not only for creating the First Lady’s gowns, but also for dressing Mrs. Lincoln in the beautiful attire Keckley had fashioned. The relationship between the two women quickly evolved, as Keckley was drawn into the intimate life of the Lincoln family, supporting Mary Todd Lincoln in the loss of first her son, and then her husband to the assassination that stunned the nation and the world.
Keckley saved scraps from the dozens of gowns she made for Mrs. Lincoln, eventually piecing together a tribute known as the Mary Todd Lincoln Quilt. She also saved memories, which she fashioned into a book, Behind the Scenes: Thirty Years a Slave and Four Years in the White House. Upon its publication, Keckley’s memoir created a scandal that compelled Mary Todd Lincoln to sever all ties with her, but in the decades since, Keckley’s story has languished in the archives. In this impeccably researched, engrossing novel, Chiaverini brings history to life in rich, moving style.

Why I'm Waiting:
As a Canadian I don't have much exposure to American history or the historical figures as I do with their Canadian counterparts but I do enjo reading fictional accounts about real people. I have it on good authority that this author is pretty good so I'm really looking forward to reading this book.
Awesome picks. Thanks for sharing :)

Woah! I'm really digging the template/theme of this blog. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's very hard to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and visual appeal.
ReplyDeleteI must say you've done a amazing job with this. Additionally, the blog loads super fast for me on Opera.
Excellent Blog!
