We really have to stop meeting this way

First of all, I know I'm 3 weeks late but, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Second of all, I've missed you all terribly.
If you're new to this blog and just stumbled upon it you may be wondering what I'm on about.
If you're a longtime follower you've got to be getting pretty tired of my long, and often unexplained absences.

I had a pretty good 6 months of blogging in 2017, until May that is.
Unfortunately life really does have a way of well, getting in the way and unfortunately it's been staying in the way a little longer again.
My elderly father (82)  had a bad fall in July which has left him wheelchair bound and us his children acting as his caregivers until we can find him a placement in a long term care facility which could take 6 months or more. So I need something to keep me sane and here I find myself again.

However, I'm back. I won't make any promises about how often I'm going to post. It could be daily, could be 3 times a week or once a week. I just want to come back to my blog.
I will not be taking any review copies on as I can't commit to timelines at the moment, unless you're an author I've worked with before or there is a flexible timeline.

I have another announcement, Turning the Pages will not be a books only blog. I've recently (in the past year) fallen in love with the wonderful world of fiber arts and am a certified crochet addict. So, there will be some non-bookish posts where I share things I've created, things I want to make and bring two of my favourite hobbies together. I toyed with the idea of creating a second blog but I think that would be folly. I have to get back into managing one blog let alone 2!

I hope you'll stick around and keep reading Turning the Pages and do let me know what I've missed since May! Also do any of you do crafty things? Do you blog about it? Feel free to share links!

It's good to be home.
-Kimberly

  3. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. My grandfather had a nasty fall back in 2016 and I've been making the 400 mile drive once a month to help get things settled ever since. It's exhausting and I don't even have it full time. I don't do anything crafty but I really want to learn how to crochet so I'm looking forward to your posts!

    1. I remember you having to do all that travelling for your grandfather, I hope he's doing well. This is a complete change in lifestyle for us as Dad was 100% independent before. I hope you pick up crochet! I find it incredibly relaxing :)

    1. Thanks Stefanie! I was so happy to see your comment! I've missed reading your blog so much, your knitting posts actually inspired me to pick up my hook again after not doing any crochet since I was a kid so thank you for that!

  6. Welcome back! I saw from your Instagram that you are blogging again, and I'm so glad! And I enjoy your fibery posts on IG, so I look forward to seeing them here along with your bookish posts.

I'm so sorry about your dad. I know how rough that can be. My husband's parents were ill and needed a great deal of assistance for about six years; it was challenging. I wish your father improved health, and you and your family patience and fortitude as you deal with the challenges of an infirm parent, particularly finding and managing a long-term care solution.

I also understand how life can get in the way of blogging. My own blog suffered last year from a series of things I was dealing with. The biggest thing that slipped was review posts. Like you, I'm trying to get back into blogging more regularly. And like you, I've been thinking of sometimes posting about the non-bookish parts of my life, like knitting and spinning, and perhaps the occasional tea review.

So welcome back, and good luck!

    1. Thank you Lark! I'm sorry to hear that 2017 was a tough one for you as well. I'm hoping this year will be easier on both of us. I'm glad that I've been able to keep up with some of your goings on via IG though! Especially your yarny pursuits which I find so inspiring. I think posting about the non bookish things on your blog is a great idea! I think it would be a nice change of pace for you :) Thank you for the warm welcome!

  7. Good to have you back, Kimberly. I hope your father feels better soon. Yay to crochet (I have never done that myself though) and books and blogging. Go you!

  8. Oh, sorry to hear about your father. I hope his recovery goes smoothly. It's good you all are able to help out; he's lucky to have you.

Crocheting will not only be fun but should help with your stress levels.

My blogging in 2016 and 2017 was erratic but I'm more or less back on track. Life gets in the way sometimes, it happens.

  9. An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next.

  10. Spot on with this write-up, I truly think this website needs much more consideration. I’ll probably be again to read much more, thanks for that info.
