*[Blog Tour Review] Something Furry Underfoot by Amy L. Peterson

Something Furry Underfoot

Summary:

Something Furry Underfoot is a funny, touching book about pets that Amy's husband brought home and how Amy ended up helping care for, and falling for, most of them. In addition to frogs, iguanas, dogs, a stray cat, rabbits, and lots of hamsters, you will meet a male hedgehog that escaped three times to mate with a female hedgehog, a ferret that cost $1,200 in vet bills and a domestic duck. The book includes 50 tips including "Tip #5: If your significant other was ever denied a pet in his/her 'previous life,' you may be in for a lot of fur." Some proceeds will benefit animal rescue organizations.

Something Furry Underfoot was my second read by author Amy L. Peterson who first approached me back in 2012 to review her memoir Zero to Four Kids in Thirty Seconds which I really liked. So when I got the tour invite to review her second memoir I had to say yes.

Something Furry Underfoot was a humorous memoir based on Amy's experiences living with her husband, stepchildren and their menagerie of animals over their years together. As an animal lover myself that was the big draw to the book for me apart from enjoying the author's writing style.

At the time I read this, I'd been going through a bit of a rough patch and when I picked it up it was on a whim. I hadn't planned on reading it until a later date but something about it was calling me and I wanted to laugh and did I ever! I loved the hilarious antics of Amy's brood both human and non, and it's a wonder that she hasn't been driven insane by all the animals in and out of her home, even ones that not everyone would want.

I found myself smiling the whole time I read Something Furry Underfoot and I'm glad that I picked it up when I did because it was exactly the type of book I needed. It was lighthearted, witty and fun and had more than a few hilarious moments that I enjoyed reading about.

Overall, I loved Something Furry Underfoot and I'm glad to see that Amy's writing while it wasn't bad before, quite the opposite actually, has gotten stronger and I think she's really hit her stride as an author and it was nice hearing stories that included her, the zoo and her husband and kids and I hope she has another book in the works because I think she's a hoot.

I would recommend this Something Furry Underfoot to fans of her previous memoir, people who want a quick, funny well written read and for the multitude of animal lovers out there. It'll make you laugh, cringe, and laugh some more and totally make you thankful for your own pets who suddenly don't seem so misbehaved after reading about some of her pet's antics.
