Lorelei James has been on my radar for several years but like many other authors she is one that kind of fell to the wayside when I started blogging so I was happy to borrow it from the library a week ago and was really excited to read it and ya know what I'm glad I did.

I liked my first dip into the Rough Rider's series, it was actually better than I expected and it surprised me. I don't know about you folks but sometimes erotica can be very much an endeavour of style over substance but this one, I'm happy to say proved me wrong.

I really liked the set up of this book. Single mom, adorable kid, curmudgeon of a father and a cowboy with a darkside who LOVES kids. It's not all that often that I can jump this far into a series and not really feel like I'm missing a hell of a lot and I appreciated the author doing this so while this one does have characters that I know have their own books before and after this one, it can totally be read on it's own.

While this one is billed as an erotic romance, there was a surprising amount of character development and I found that I really got a sense for the town and the people in it despite the heavy emphasis on the romance between tough as nails Ginger and Kane. I loved getting to know the other characters and their little quirks and as much as I loved Ginger and Kane, Ginger's son Hayden really made the story come together. He was adorable! I'm glad he played such a big role in the story and how he was written. I also loved how he was able to act as a bridge not just between Ginger and Kane but between Kane, and Ginger's elderly wheelchair bound dad, Dash.

Ginger and Kane made a great couple. She was really likable. I loved how strong and independent she was and how big of a heart she had but I do wish she'd given in to Kane a lot sooner than before her wee accident that lead to them getting together. She was smart and witty and was the perfect match for Kane who could be very dominant. I enjoyed seeing their relationship progress and how they clashed at times.Kane was a really good hero of the story, his sweetness helped balance out the darker side to his personality and I thought he had a great sense of humour plus he was a cowboy. Need I say more? The heat between these too was great and liked that the the author didn't over do the sex scenes and made them spicy but not completely raunchy. The way these two found each other at the end of the book was just right and I really liked how their romance wrapped up.

This is a series and author that I will absolutely be picking up again and can't wait to do so, I'd recommend this one to fans of romance with the heat factor off the charts with a penchant for cowboys and lots of laughs and my only regret is that I didn't give this author a try before now.

Last night I really needed something light and fluffy to read after finishing a bit of a heavier read so I picked up Tagging her Lynx by Abby Woods and since it had been given some pretty favourable reviews I had high hopes for it.

 

The bad news is this book just wasn't for me. I keep hoping that I'll come to enjoy novella's but so far it's only happened a couple times where I've like the story. This wasn't one of those times but at least I can say that I gave the book a chance.

 

This was definitely a case of this not being the book for me. The book started off really well but by about 20% in I was getting really annoyed with the book. The two main characters were both too extreme for me. Chloe was far to subservient to Granger for my tastes and Granger was just pig headed. Honestly he wouldn't let the girl work ever again because it's not what the women in the Lynx Clan do. I just felt that the book was very stereotypical of a shifter romance and the x-rated parts were bland and repetitive. I'm not a prude but it just felt as though the scenes were recycled.

 

I think that if this had been a full blown 200-250 page it would have been a good book because everything in the book happened so fast it would have been much better for me if it had been slowed down a bit and the characters weren't so over the top.

 

Overall, this book didn't do anything for me but I'm in the minority as there are many people who did like the novella a lot. I would recommend it to people who like shifter romance novellas with extremely alpha heroes and very meek women.

It took me forever to get an ARC of this one to read and even longer for me to read it. I was really hesitant to read it because I've never read the author before and all the hype kind of made me really nervous to read it in case I didn't like it. Luckily for me I had nothing to worry about because I LOVED this book.

 

I know this book was published in the wake of the series Fifty Shades of Grey (Which I also read and enjoyed a lot) but this one in my opinion was a better read. I mean there are a lot of similarities between Bared to You and Fifty Shades but there are a lot of differences as well.

 

I'm still trying to figure out why I enjoyed this book so much since Gideon is not the kind of man I would ever want to be involved in and I frequently found myself wanting to stab him through my kindle for how he was treating Eva in the novel. I honestly don't really care for him that much but I do enjoy the chemistry between them.

 

I found the story to be intriguing and entirely all consuming I think I read the entire book in just a couple hours spread over two days. I was completely and utterly addicted to the intensity Eva and Gideon had for each other.

 

I think what I enjoyed most about them as a couple was how flawed they are. Both suffer from their own personal demons. Eva was dealing with her own past and was trying to learn more about Gideon but he kept wanting to keep himself blocked off from her as he'd never really had a vanilla relationship like the one he wanted with Eva and kept pulling away. It was getting to the point that I was hoping that Eva would drop him like a hot potato and wash her hands of him for good but in the end I'm glad that she didn't.

 

This book is absolutely not for everyone and that's okay some people are going to like it and some aren't but I think that if you're looking for a book that's in my opinion much more emotionally intense read than Fifty Shade with a lot more spice (even though it's lacking the BDSM qualities of Fifty Shades) this might just be the read for you. Sylvia Day created one of the hottest couples on the book market today and this really shows her talent in creating characters that while they aren't perfect do seem to go together quite well. I know I was impressed with this book and when I read it I couldn't wait to read to find out what happened next between this pair. I highly recommend this title as well as this author who after only two books has gotten a fan for life.

I started it late Monday night and was finished by early Tuesday evening. It was that damn good!

I've known about Sylvia Day for awhile now, even before her novel Bared to You was published. However, like a lot of other authors her books got pushed to the side. Well her books got pushed aside until I saw that this one was available for review from NetGalley.

I love historical romance and when I read the blurb that this was the novel that inspired the author to write her afore mentioned book Bared to You I just had to request it and, as you can tell I really, really, really enjoyed it!

As soon as I started reading this book I noticed that Sylvia Day paid excellent attention to the tone and the speech patterns of her characters. Often times in historical romance novels the characters talk as you and I would. Anybody, who knows anything can tell you that the way we talk now is different than they talked 200 years ago. When I noticed her close attention to the details in the way her characters spoke to each other I knew I was in for a treat.

The story itself was a lot different than I thought it would be. Since I had never read anything by Sylvia Day before I thought that this may be your typical historical romance with the typical but still loveable plot lines, charcters and writing style. However, this book had none of those at least in my opinion it didn't and you know what? I absolutely loved that about it.

In this novel Sylvia Day presents us with a strong yet feminine character in the form of the widowed Lady Jessica. I loved Jessica's character because though she had her faults she was neither high and mighty nor extremely outlandish and uncaring as some heroines in popular historical romances are. She's had a hard time of it and while she has a really hard time letting people and most importantly Alistair in to her heart as well as her confidence. I really felt for her character due to the past abuse she suffered at the hands of her father and the untimely death of her husband. Yet, despite it all she has an inner strength that makes her an even more endearing character. Plus with her and Alistair had their battle of wills she was an apt oponent. Alistair, Jessica's love interest has also had a hard time of it in the past and his past is the one reason that Jessica has taken care not to get to close to him up until now. After witnessing Alistair in a compromising position years before she is determined to not let him under her skin...or her skirts.

I really loved the romance element to this novel because of the obvious chemistry there was between Alistair and Jessica. I mean talk about erotic! I'd have to say that this is probably the sexiest romance I've ever read. Sylvia Day certainly knows how to write her naughty bits in her novels. But, don't think that that is all the novel is about.

Since I got so attached to the characters the ups and downs that they experience through the novel actually made the story all the more real to me. The fact that this book didn't go straight from them getting freaky to living happily ever after was a nice change of pace. Plus the fact that they were willing to fight for each other and to be together just made the book even better.

So basically if you want a super sexy historical romance to read bordering on erotica but with an extremely well thought out cast of characters, and plot I highly suggest picking this one up. I devoured this one in just a day and thought it was wonderfully written and now I have a new favourite author. I recommend this one to all historical romances lovers and those who are new to the genre and are looking for a starting point to start reading. I for one can't wait to read another of her historical romances because her writing is addictive!

What a fun, sexy little romp of read this one turned out to be. Since erotic novels seem to not be my  cup of tea lately I was surprised by how much I enjoyed The Wager by D.X. Luc and I'm really pleased to have been a part of the book tour for it.

I think what I loved most in the book was the fact that the characters in The Wager actually had a fair amount of substance and there was more to the book itself than the sex. I don't know about you but I love when the characters in the erotica I read have personalities and boy do they in this one. I also like how there was humour in the book as well.

For an erotic novel I actually wish that this one was another hundred pages. Not that there was anything wrong with the length it is now but unlike other erotica novels I've read this one has enough substance to support an even longer novel than it is and that's all because of the characters.

Like I said before I really enjoyed the fact that the characters had more going on for them than lots of sex. They had great personalities and I really liked Eros, Haphaestus and Vanessa. I think the fact that the author chose a god that I haven't seen featured in any novel was a great choice. Everyone knows Ares, Apollo, etc. But, not many people may know of Haphaestus and I think that is what gives this book the edge.

I think that if you love erotic romance with a paranormal twist than this book is probably one that should go on your list. Preferably now. Got it? Good.  I read it while I was away last weekend at the cottage and it was the perfect book to kick back, relax and enjoy reading. I warn you though, you may just become addicted to the authors writing!

 I admit, it's been awhile since I've read a romantic suspense novel so when I got the invitation and saw the cover and summary I new I had to give this one a try and in the end I'm glad I did because I was really caught off guard by how much I enjoyed the story like and the characters.

While the book did have steamier bits I'm glad to say that the Kelly Gendron made a fine effort in order to make the story more than just reading about the horizontal tango. I was really happy that the book did have a fair amount suspense in it and it kept me interested in  the story line as well.

I also enjoyed how it was the female protagonist who was the one kidnapping the male lead because it's something I personally haven't read much of happening so it was an awesome change and I really liked the chemistry between Jinx (love the name) and Jed.

All in all I would say this was a great little romantic suspense novel for those looking for a bit of a steamier or spicier read. I'm really glad I gave this one a chance because Kelly did a great job writing her novel and it's the perfect length and ended just the way I wanted it to.

Jinx sat in the chair, returning his harassing stare. His forehead glistened. His skin was flushed. “Hmm. Ya know, you don’t look so good,” she thought, and then said it aloud.

He swiped a hand over his forehead and got up. At his full height, he was a couple inches taller than Aztec’s six feet, and Jinx wondered how she’d missed that little detail too. His fingers came to the top button of the orange jumpsuit. He undid it, went for the second, and then the third.

Confused, she asked, “What the hell are you doing?”

“I’m sweating my ass off,” he said, continuing on to the fourth button.

“It’s cool in here,” she said, desperately hoping he didn’t intend to strip right in front of her.

“Yeah, says the little lady in her skimpy short-shorts and tank top,” he retorted before he started to unfasten some kind of straps at his shoulders.

What the heck is he wearing? She watched as he pulled the thing from his body. An empathy belly, like a pregnancy vest without the breasts. He tossed it on the table. From his broad shoulders, he pushed off the top-half of the jumpsuit. It fell to the ground, revealing his lean waist. He pulled his sweatshirt over his head, and his muscle-toned biceps flexed as he hurled it to the ground. Jinx couldn’t resist. First off, doesn't the summary sound like an interesting political thriller? That was my first thought at least. However this is a very adult book. There is a very good reason as to why it's called Erotica. Now, I'm not much of an erotica reader so I thought I would give it a whirl with this book.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this book. It wasn't as steamy as I thought it would be but it was still spicy. The very idea of vampires in a futuristic society is quiet intriguing and I think that the author started the book in the right direction since this is the first book in the series.

For me my favourite part was the world building and Raven the male protagonist. I thought that while the world building could have been slightly more detailed that the author did a good job. I did fin Raven particularly interesting despite the fact that I personally can't fathom his interest in Becca Rece (the female protagonist).

While the plot slowly (sometimes too slowly) unraveled itself I could not help but wonder at what attracted Raven to Becca. She was so naive and rude that I didn't like her at all. But they did have some spicy sexy times! Even though I didn't care for Becca too much in this book I do hope that she and raven will continue to be the focuses of the other books in the series. I may not like her but her and Raven do make a good team and towards the end I actually did start liking Becca more as she became stronger, and more willing to face facts about her past, present and future.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves their books on the hotter side with a unique futuristic twist. I think that the author is on to something here and I really hope she continues the series soon so I can see where things are headed. I'm really glad I signed up for S.M.
