Summary:

Single, Black, and Government Owned is the explosive follow up to O. Keeys's critically acclaimed memoir, Rise and Fall of a Track Star. After walking away from a rising track career Omegia joins the military and leaves her son at home with her family.

For nearly thirteen years she balances being a single parent, dating, and her commitment to Uncle Sam. Single, Black, and Government Owned is an up close and personal view into the life of a woman overcoming the challenges of being a victim of sexual assault. This memoir takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride and will leave you feeling liberated.

As I've gotten older (I know I'm only 22) but my reading tastes have changed dramatically since I started being really active on Goodreads which I joined 4 years ago as well as when I started blogging last October. In the last couple of years I've been branching out quite a bit into the genres of biographies/memoirs so when I got the invite for this book review I was intrigued.

This book was a very emotional read, the subject matter isn't easy because the author is a survivor of Sexual Assault but don't fret the book is also about her personal triumph over the many adversities she has faced in her life.

What impressed me most about Omegia was how strong and resilient she was. She is definitely a woman who knows what she wants and she seems like she is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to getting what she wants, needs but most of all deserves for herself and for her children whom she raised alone.

Overall I found Omeiga's memoir to be well written read. It's an emotional read that left me a little raw after reading it. The book was not written in a holier than thou type of read as some may expect a memoir to be written. Instead it is written in a very rich and very real manner. After reading her story I have gained a lot of respect for Omeiga and wish her all the very best in her future. I would recommend this one to those who enjoy memoirs and biographies that make you think.
